Sustainability affects us too
My commitment to a sustainable transport future in New Zealand was amplified by a question my grandson asked me a couple of years ago. He asked, "Ouma, what is Earth going to look like when I'm grown up? Will there be anything left?"
I was amazed that, at just eight years old, he was worrying about what we are doing to our planet and how it will impact life when he's an adult. As an eight-year-old back in the early '70s, I knew nothing about climate change or that such a thing even existed. I vowed to do everything possible to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
Being part of a global organisation that embraced sustainability made it easy to honour my commitment. However, when I decided to embark on this new venture, I wondered how I could still keep my promise to him.
This is how: by supporting manufacturers and partners dedicated to zero-emissions manufacturing and social responsibility as part of their core values and offering renewable energy sources whenever possible to reduce the impact on the grid and the use of fossil fuels.
New Zealand's target to achieve net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases (GHG) by 2050 requires commitment from all of us. Even if you think your contribution is insignificant, it all adds up to achieving these targets.
We value the opportunity to be part of something greater than ourselves and appreciate your willingness to share your personal sustainability goals with us. Together we can achieve so much more than we ever could as individuals.
